Monster of the week
By Petromagne
This book was a bit more plodding than most of Simon R. Green's stuff. The ghost hunters go into an office building and basically go floor by floor fighting a new bad guy on each floor. Halfway through the book I came to the realization it's like the old monster of the week, except it's each chapter is another level another brand of monster/challenge. The confrontation that builds throughout the book ends up being rather anti-climatic, and sadly predictable.

So disappointing it may taint your enjoyment of the Nightside series
By Pop Bop
The cover blurb says, "As good as the Nightside...", which is completely false. I am a huge fan of the Nightside series, and greatly enjoy the characters, the dialogue, the secondary characters, the villains, and the whole noir vibe. I don't even mind the repetition within each book and from book to book, since that just ties the whole series together, and emphasizes some of the best parts.

But the Ghost Finders series is a great disappointment. The dialogue is childish and the repartee non-existent. The plot is just a level by level video game narrative. The characters are, at best, cartoonish. After a few pages I was hoping Green would get into gear and create a sort of "Torchwood" kind of team. But this never left Scooby-Do territory.

I'm going to just forget this one for a while, because I really don't want its memory to detract from my enjoyment of the remaining Nightside books. Honestly.

Brilliant Addition To New Series
By Lucas Capps
Simon Green has a talent for creating characters that are larger then life, and weaving various mythology, science, and history into wonderfully amusing tales. This book wasn't written to be on a recommended reader list of someone who enjoys high literature.

It's throughly low brow in it's own way, but that is what makes it so good. Everything he writes is so over the top, but he does it with real emotion, and a genuine flash of amazement.

For those who have read the previous book in this series, our intrepid Ghost Finders are called to deal with a sticky situation and the usual hyjinx that Simon Green always brings to his books ensures.

Let me be clear.

This is a book for someone who wants to read a great story, and not looking to read something that will alter the very landscape of their existence. For me though, this book was a welcome addition to my library.

About the Author
Marion Zimmer was born in Albany, NY, on June 3, 1930, and married Robert Alden Bradley in 1949. Mrs. Bradley received her B.A. in 1964 from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, then did graduate work at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1965-67.

She was a science fiction/fantasy fan from her middle teens, and made her first sale as an adjunct to an amateur fiction contest in Fantastic/Amazing Stories in 1949. She had written as long as she could remember, but wrote only for school magazines and fanzines until 1952, when she sold her first professional short story to Vortex Science Fiction. She wrote everything from science fiction to Gothics, but is probably best known for her Darkover novels.

In addition to her novels, Mrs. Bradley edited many magazines, amateur and professional, including Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine, which she started in 1988. She also edited an annual anthology called Sword and Sorceress for DAW Books.

Over the years she turned more to fantasy; The House Between the Worlds, although a selection of the Science Fiction Book Club, was "fantasy undiluted". She wrote a novel of the women in the Arthurian legends -- Morgan Le Fay, the Lady of the Lake, and others -- entitled Mists of Avalon, which made the NY Times best seller list both in hardcover and trade paperback, and she also wrote The Firebrand, a novel about the women of the Trojan War. Her historical fantasy novels, The Forest House, Lady of Avalon, Mists of Avalon are prequels to Priestess of Avalon

She died in Berkeley, California on September 25, 1999, four days after suffering a major heart attack. She was survived by her brother, Leslie Zimmer; her sons, David Bradley and Patrick Breen; her daughter, Moira Stern; and her grandchildren.

What MZB thought of Sword of Aldones
By JL
Yes, I knew Marion. After helping me sell my first novel, House of Zeor, she became my writing mentor for many years, and I can safely say she taught me maybe 80% of what I know and today teach about writing -- maybe more -- in workshops such as the one at Westercon.
Sword of Aldones was my absolute all time favorite Darkover novel, and that's still true today -- which was a disappointment to MZB.
You see SoA was her first actual forray into attempting to take the embarrassingly juvenile "Sevener" series she wrote for personal amusement (as we today write Star Trek and Buffy stories)and turn it into a professional product.
It's sale was a milestone in her life and professional career -- but she always knew and felt that it had technical and structural flaws. She felt the characters did a lot of running around, and people, issues and things popped out of nowhere, and the whole thing lacked a central motivational backbone.
But you see - that is what I love about it.
I just made up all the missing parts and never missed them.
Thus while the rewrite of this part of Darkovan history is now the actual basis of the series, and SoA is ignored -- I found the rewrite less enjoyable because it told me the answers to all the unanswerable questions posed in SoA (which I had so much fun answering for myself).
Because MZB and I are so very - VERY - different people, of course what I made up to explain the inexplicable is very different from what she eventually supplied.
However, if you are as much of a Darkover fan as I am (I found Darkover when I was a Freshman at the U. of Calif at Berkeley - which is when I also discovered Theodore Bikel -- these two having literally changed my life) -- then you need to read and compare these two books and decide for yourself which is the actual foundation of the Darkover series.
At the same time you will discover one of the foundations of my own Sime Gen Universe, now available on amazon.com. Sime Gen: The Unity Trilogy is much more like Sword of Aldones than it is like Sharra's Exile.

the first Darkover novel
By Joe Sherry
"The Planet Savers" is the very first Darkover novel written by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It is a rather slim volume, my copy only had 91 pages, but it tells a fairly complete story. While this novel doesn't seem to fit in with the other Darkover novels, it does help to explain a little bit about who the Trailmen are, which is never explained in any depth in other Darkover novels. Bradley also explains why this novel doesn't quite fit with the other Darkover novels and how this novel came to be in the forward to the book. It is fairly interesting to understand how Bradley conceptualized Darkover.

This short novel tells the story of the 48 year Trailmen Fever. This is a nasty plague like sickness that seems to crop up every 48 years in Darkover's history, and Darkover is about to enter into a plague year. Now that the Terrans are back on Darkover, they are determined to end the plague. But the only way to do that is to get the cooperation of the Trailmen who are immune (and might in some way be a carrier). The Trailmen are fiercely territorial and violent to trespassers. But as a young child the human (the Trailmen aren't considered completely human, I'd imagine more like Neanderthal Man) Dr Jason Allison was raised by the Trailmen and is being recruited to lead the expedition to ask for the help of the Trailment. But Dr Allison seems to suffer from multiple personalities. One is a doctor Jay Allison who is a talented Doctor, but doesn't remember the language of the Trailmen and is something of a wuss. The other is Jason, a rougher man who is fully at ease in physical situations and is still fluent in the language and culture of the Trailment. Somehow a Terran doctor is able to revert Jay to Jason and the adventure begins.

It is a decent enough novel, and it involves other characters familiar to the Darkover reader, in particular Regis Hastur, who is a major player in other novels. As a standalone Darkover novel, "The Planet Savers" isn't anything special and I would not recommend it to anyone who wasn't trying to read all of the Darkover novels (as I am).

Two books, a short story, and a "retrospective".
By Christopher Ware
Let me start by saying that these are the first Darkover books I've ever read. Since they were the first ones published, it seems kind of appropriate. The two "novels" (they are short enough to be novellas) are THE PLANET SAVERS and THE SWORD OF ALDONES. Sandwiched in between those two is a short story called THE WATERFALL. Finally, we get an article written by Ms. Bradley regarding her feelings about the Darkover phenomenon.
Let's start with THE PLANET SAVERS. My first impression is that it was way too short. It was only 97 pages. Just as the characters started to get interesting, the story was over. There was no room for any character development aside from the main character and, so, the relationships he had with the others weren't very convincing. Not only this, but the action was too quick. It just seemed to happen so easily. I would have loved to see a lot more detail regarding their trek. It just seemed all to easy for them to succeed. Where was the adversity?
Next came THE WATERFALL. I have no idea what this story was about. The narration was terrible, the inner thoughts of the main character were nearly incomprehensible, and I had no understanding for her motivations. This is a terrible example of short story writing. I understand what happened in the story, but I don't understand why.
Then there was THE SWORD OF ALDONES. This was much longer than the first story in the book. Probably around 180 pages or so. While the story was very interesting, there were too many references to politics and history of both the world and the characters that weren't explained. I was getting a headache trying to follow all the people that were being talked about, but weren't even in the story. There relationships between all the characters were so convoluted and full of unexplained history that it was difficult to keep any of them straight. I'm sure the author had them all straight in her head as she was writing the story, but she did a terrible job of communicating them to the reader. Plus, I got the feeling that this was a pivotal story in the history of Darkover, but I just couldn't get a grip on why.
Finally, there is the DARKOVER RETROSPECTIVE by Ms. Bradley. This was, as near as I can tell, published in 1980 and so is a bit out of date. In it, she discusses the history behind the development of the Darkover saga and how it came to be. It's an interesting read for anyone who's read a lot of the books, but a lot of the significance was lost on me since I'd only read these two.
Anyway, if you're a fan of Darkover, this is probably a must have. If you're just starting out, you might want to try THE BLOODY SUN instead.

From Booklist
The fourth novel in Sizemore's Laws of the Blood series centers around the vampire Olympias, the enforcer of the Washington, D.C., area. Sara, her human servant, urges Olympias to take a companion, but she is busy enough trying to control the vampire nests in her area. She decides to oust the nests and force them to move on--a decision she knows won't be popular. When she becomes deeply attracted to Mike Falconer, a man another vampire wants for her companion, she angers the vampire community even more. Roger Betencourt, an ambitious companion, uses the unrest to sow even more discord among the vampire nests, in hopes he can unite them and overthrow Olympias. Adding to Olympias' problems is the fact that Mike is part of a top secret military project involving astral projections, and his team may have discovered the existence of vampires. As Olympias' enemies close in, she finds she has to rely on some unexpected allies in this thrilling, sexually charged yarn. Kristine Huntley

Strong vampire entry
By A Customer
She was the mother of Alexander the Great and Philip of Macedon's queen. She saw the rise and fall of Greece and Rome and other civilizations lost to the dust of time. Her name is Olympias and her age can be measured in millenniums but she prefers to live in the present where she is the Chief Enforcer of Washington DC. She insures that all vampires in her domain obey the laws of the council and keep their identities hidden from the mortals living along side them.

Olympias is going through the motions of her job, but she is not really paying any attention to the beings that are dissatisfied with her actions. Her "slave" Sarah wants her mistress to pay more attention to her, while a vampire's companion sets in motion a plan that will topple Olympias from power, and a black ops government backed psychic group is on the verge of discovering that vampires actually exist. To complicate matters even more the Enforcer is attracted to the head of the psychic group, a man whose vampire father lives in Olympias' territory.

Every book in this series seems better than the previous highly regarded predecessors as Susan Sizemore continues to develop the culture of the vampire society. The heroine of this novel has earned a sequel and the audience deserves learning the fate of some of the likable characters in LAWS OF THE BLOOD: DECEPTIONS. There are so many exciting subplots that tie into the main story line that readers will want to read this book more than once, but each time in one sitting.

For Each City there is One Enforcer....
By Marc Ruby™
Wherever there are vampires, there must be laws, otherwise humanity's predators would be revealed, and become prey themselves. In Susan Sizemore's world, the laws are made by the Council, and a group of specialized vampires called hunters exists to enforce their dictates. Not a very democratic system, but one that has stood the test of time. More to the point, is has stood the test of four volumes in a successful series.
Each volume tells a story about a particular enforcer, Char McCarin in Seattle, Selim in Los Angeles, Istvan the roamer, and now Olympias in Washington, D.C. Once the wife of Philip of Macedonia, she has had 2,000 years to hone her political and power skills, rising to become the chief enforcer for the United States. In her concerns for the maintenance of the Law everywhere she has forgotten to apply it equally at home. Her laxity has permitted the local vampire nests to make their own rules, and now that she is determined to bring things back under control, rebellion is about to break out.
It does not help that she has selected a possible companion that another vampire wants, or that someone in the nests is plotting to bring her down. And what will she do with another vampire who has requested permission to die? Olympias has no choice but to burden her slaves with too much responsibility and now she must deal with the consequences. The ensuing crisis will take all her political and fighting skills.
Sizemore is one of the few writers who can write about vampire politics without becoming distractingly boring. Part of this is the mystique of the enforcers, a specialized breed that prefers to feed on the hearts of other vampires. Another part is that her characters, despite the possession of immortality and superhuman powers behave like real people. No overblown romanticism or new goth world order here, but interesting personalities dealing with life among the pointy-toothed.
The writing shows good pacing, and while not sparse does not dwell too long over any particular facet. Violence is sudden, horrific, and then over with. Much time has been spent thinking through the logic of this world, and it rings true even when it crosses over to the fantastic. The overall effect is a refreshing shift from more stereotyped vampire fiction. If such existed, I would call the 'Laws of the Blood' series vampire fiction for vampires. While the individual novels do occasionally intertwine all can stand independently, so you may begin with any volume you please.

Dynamite Dark Fantasy. Suspenseful, Intriguing, Ingenious!
By Sophie
"Laws of the Blood: Deceptions" is my first Susan Sizemore novel ever, and though I came in on #4 of the series, it was surprisingly easy to become engrossed in this dark and seductive world of vampires. "Deceptions" is a gripping tale peppered with sporadic and brutal violence, smart writing, wit, humour, and some kick butt characters! I must add, however, that the story seemed a bit slow to get going, though this may be a byproduct of my coming in on the 4th book in the series. But once the story did get going, I couldn't put the book down. Upon reflection, I think I would enjoy the first hundred pages much more a second time around.
"Deceptions" tells the story of Olympias, an immensely powerful vampire who has long reigned as the Enforcer of Washington D.C. She was once the wife of Phillip of Macedon and mother of Alexander the Great, and her age can be measured in millennia. But Olympias is in for some trouble. A gifted psychic and his team working on a top secret government project are on the verge of discovering the existence of vampires, and it's Olympias's job to make sure they don't. Which normally would be a simple enough matter, only she has fallen in love with the leader of the project, military man Mike Falconer. To make matters worse, Mike is the very same man that one of the baby vampires in the area has chosen for her companion. Add in Olympias's human servant, Sara, questioning her master's choices and becoming dangerously preoccupied with a suicidal vampire, and things are starting to get uncomfortable for Olympias.
And into this scene rife with unrest has walked a very dangerous man, Roger Bentencourt. He's the companion of one of the local nest leaders and he bears a deadly grudge against Olympias. Determined to bring about Olympias's destruction, he'll use every problem and frustration to his own advantage. And while Olympias is preoccupied by her complicated romance with Mike Falconer and dealing with a dozen situations begging for her attention, Bentencourt may just succeed!
"Deceptions" is fast-paced, exciting, and entertaining. The characters are strong and well developed and I really grew to like both Olympias and Falconer. Olympias's much-loved hellhound, is wonderful, and is one of my favourite characters! This book is not for the faint of heart, but Sizemore has created a fascinating and original society of vampires, known as the Strigoi in this series, that vampire fiction and fantasy fans will NOT want to miss. "Deceptions" is compelling, riveting, and sometimes shocking fare, and I, for one, loved it. I'd like to see Olympias get a second book, as she most certainly deserves, if not demands one! So read this book, it comes highly recommended.

Solder Joint Reliability: Theory and ApplicationsFrom Van Nostrand Reinhold

Solders have given the designer of modern consumer, commercial, and military electronic systems a remarkable flexibility to interconnect electronic components. The properties of solder have facilitated broad assembly choices that have fueled creative applications to advance technology. Solder is the electrical and me chanical "glue" of electronic assemblies. This pervasive dependency on solder has stimulated new interest in applica tions as well as a more concerted effort to better understand materials properties. We need not look far to see solder being used to interconnect ever finer geo metries. Assembly of micropassive discrete devices that are hardly visible to the unaided eye, of silicon chips directly to ceramic and plastic substrates, and of very fine peripheral leaded packages constitute a few of solder's uses. There has been a marked increase in university research related to solder. New electronic packaging centers stimulate applications, and materials engineering and science departments have demonstrated a new vigor to improve both the materials and our understanding of them. Industrial research and development continues to stimulate new application, and refreshing new packaging ideas are emerging. New handbooks have been published to help both the neophyte and seasoned packaging engineer.

Absolutely essential for gemology at all levels
By Merritt Bumpas
While there are dozens of excellent books out there on the subject of gemology, there are really only a couple that I would consider to be required reading. The Color Encyclopedia of Gemstones is one of them. Even though the book has been out of print for awhile, it still manages to provide more information n one volume than just about every other book out there.
With clear and concise entries of just about every gemstone available to the collector, as well as color photos of each gem described, this book contains pretty much all the information you would need to identify your gemstone.

although the rest are very fine, this is still the best
By Ray Barnes
It is a real shame that this book is presently out-of-print, I borrowed it from the local library some 5 years ago, and to this date have yet to see anything better in this genre. The technical data about precious stones - such as dispersion, types of refraction, specific gravity, types of cutting, and so on - are well covered, with specific commentaries on individual stones presented in encyclopaedic format. It's very useful not only for specific reference but just for general browsing. What sets this book apart, on the other hand, is the quality and quantity of the gem photography. There are pictures of every major and minor gem in the world, and where a particular type of stone has more than one color - or colors - the entire suite of colors is presented. So the garnets, sapphires, diamonds, tourmalines, topazes, beryls (just to name a few) look positively kaleidoscopic. The opal section alone has some magnificent stones, including top-quality Lightning Ridge black, one of which is photographed from different directions to demonstrate the superb color play. The zircon and spinel photography is quite impressive too.
This book is emphatically not for the investor or speculator who is looking for advice, and no attempts at valuation are made. On the other hand, for readers interested in specific gemmological research or (esoteric) appreciation, this book will be ideal. The level of scholarship is impeccable, and the book is not overwhelmingly technical or difficult. It is not cheap but is worth every penny. Most strongly recommended.

Dune, by Frank Herbert

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'Dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family--and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what it undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction.

Amazon.com Review
This Hugo and Nebula Award winner tells the sweeping tale of a desert planet called Arrakis, the focus of an intricate power struggle in a byzantine interstellar empire. Arrakis is the sole source of Melange, the "spice of spices." Melange is necessary for interstellar travel and grants psychic powers and longevity, so whoever controls it wields great influence.

The troubles begin when stewardship of Arrakis is transferred by the Emperor from the Harkonnen Noble House to House Atreides. The Harkonnens don't want to give up their privilege, though, and through sabotage and treachery they cast young Duke Paul Atreides out into the planet's harsh environment to die. There he falls in with the Fremen, a tribe of desert dwellers who become the basis of the army with which he will reclaim what's rightfully his. Paul Atreides, though, is far more than just a usurped duke. He might be the end product of a very long-term genetic experiment designed to breed a super human; he might be a messiah. His struggle is at the center of a nexus of powerful people and events, and the repercussions will be felt throughout the Imperium.

Dune is one of the most famous science fiction novels ever written, and deservedly so. The setting is elaborate and ornate, the plot labyrinthine, the adventures exciting. Five sequels follow. --Brooks Peck

From Library Journal
Dune is to science fiction what The Lord of the Rings is to fantasy. Though fans believed they had bid a sad farewell to the sand planet of Arrakis upon Herbert's death in 1986, his son Brian has assumed writing the Nebula and Hugo award-winning series with the help of Kevin J. Anderson. But the original is always the most popular, and Ace here offers a good-quality hardcover complete with maps, a glossary, and appendixes. The book's huge fan base should expand even more thanks to a six-hour miniseries premiering on the Sci-Fi Channel later this year that is said to be more faithful to the book than David Lynch's truly awful 1984 feature film.

Review
"A portrayal of an alien society more complete and deeply detailed than any other author in the field has managed...a story absorbing equally for its action and philosophical vistas".

A Must Read For Serious Readers
By JiMiG
My overall 2nd favorite book and -by far -favorite science fiction story. This book and the entire original 6-novel story taught me more about politics, ecology, psychology and the human condition than all of my schooling combined. A must read for anyone that seeks insight into why we do the things we do and how to really read others and sharply tune-in to what's going on around you, but it'll take concentrated reading and possibly a re-read or two for it to truly sink in. Admittedly, it is a typical sci-fi epic as far as "boy struggles, boy overcomes, boy rules" -but you have to take in mind the time of its writing: the late sixties. Besides, there are so many other strong characters that I find myself identifying with a new one on each re-read -and the plot twists and possible future for mankind can be mind-bending for new readers. I recommend this book for any and all book lovers, whether it's mystery, romance, science, technology, psychology, ecology, social, politics, hero or epic fantasy as your favorite genre, this novel touches on it all. Pity they've never been able to make a series of movies to give it justice.

Good story, odd physical size
By Cancelled
My biggest complaint here is about the book itself. Why, oh why, does this publisher insist on making this book and inch taller than every other paperback every made! OK, slight exaggeration, but it's bigger than 99% of the paperbacks on my book shelf. It is a non-standard size. Because of that, I'm still looking for another copy of this book, because this one won't fit comfortably on my book shelf with the rest of the series, I have to keep it on the shelf for odd sized books. It's also twice as thick as the other books, unnecessarily. I had another copy of this book that fell apart, and it was standard size, like the rest of the series.

Otherwise, it's a good book with a good story. Not the greatest book every, but still holds up today.

Feudal houses in an interplanetary game of thrones
By A Customer
The critical acclaim is warranted for this space epic set in a complex world of feuding houses. I picked it up after finishing A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones and thoroughly enjoyed it. The first book is tightly focused on a morally ambiguous hero as he leads a guerrilla movement against the ruling powers. I'm looking forward to exploring more of the world as the series continues. It richly explores themes of power, religion, ecology/sustainability. Female characters are powerful and complex but tied to gender roles/stereotypes in a way that feels a little dated. Otherwise a very compelling page-turner in a well constructed world. It has stood the test of time well.

Great book to learn to install a professional system
By Steven Okelberry
I read this book to get ready to take my Texas Irrigation License exam. It explained how to properly install a professional quality sprinkler system in an easy to read and understand format. This book goes into detail about how to layout the sprinkler heads, how to pipe it all together, and how all the parts work together. I have read many irrigation books...This was the best book to get a good understanding of sprinkler systems without becoming an expert in the field of irrigation. Perfect for the do it yourself homeowner or individual wanting to get into the irrigation industry. I now have my license and highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn to install a good sprinkler system without having to read an irrigation reference manual.

The Bridge at Chappaquiddick, by Jack Olsen

And on its surface, the Chappaquiddick Incident (as it has infamously become known) was a simple but tragic traffic accident. However, its political fallout caused it to become the most speculated-upon car accident until Princess Diana's fatal ride, some 28 years later: Was Kennedy drunk? Was he trying to conceal an affair by deliberately killing Kopechne? Why did he wait for so long before reporting the accident? And who else was involved? Olsen tells the tale with as much detail as was made available to him. Though there is apparently only a single living eye-witness to the accident (Kennedy himself, who described having the "sensation of drowning" on live television a week later), Olsen tracks down the incongruous statements made by others who were indirectly involved... and comes to a potential conclusion which would be difficult to refute. There is no legal evidence of this conclusion, of course, but his alternate explanation of events turns much of the circumstantial evidence into a logic-of-sorts. And his presentation thereof causes one to reflect seriously on the nature of the official record of events as told through Kennedy's lips.

this book is terrible - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
By Kathleen Hamilton
As other reviewers have noted, this book is terrible - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! It is chock-full of typos which is very distracting and irritating. The biggest problem is that while a speculation on what might have happened is offered in the end, it doesn't begin to tie up any of the loose ends of the mystery. I find it interesting that the original hard-cover book, printed in 1969 has a large question mark as the cover art work, and the phrase "Is this what really happened that night...", while the new Kindle version I bought has a cover which states "Senator Ted Kennedy, a young woman, and what really happened that night in 1969." That's a big change and very deceptive. The main title, "The Bridge at Chappaquiddick" is accurate, however, because you will find out everything you ever wanted to know about the bridge itself, just nothing new about what actually happened there.

absolute Rubbish
By Janette Sinclair
This book offers conjecture and speculation but zero proof. It is long on superfluous details with no bearing whatsoever on the night in question and only a very - very! - thin and unbelievable theory of an alternative version of events. I don't believe Senator Kennedy's version of events that night, but this poor excuse for investigative reporting sheds no new light on the subject, and certainly doesn't offer a credible alternative version.

Spoiler alert if you read on! If Senator Kennedy wasn't in the vehicle as this author claims, and the poor victim herself caused the accident, why in heavens name would a US Senator put himself in the vehicle and take the blame? Author offers no plausible explanation for Any of the dribble he has published here. Seriously, keep looking, this is not worth the read.

Passion Always Prevails
By J. Reynolds
This is an extremely thorough and interesting examination of Ted Kennedy's Chappaquiddick incident, meticulously presenting and analyzing the evidence surrounding the case. The author's tenacity demonstrates that passion in a subject invariably will yield complete understanding of that subject. In this case, author Olsen concludes that Kennedy and Kopechne indeed were in the car together that night, but were frightened when it appeared a policman would stop them. Kennedy evidently panicked, not wanting to be caught in the auto with her, and he got out; she then drove away, toward the bridge and her death. Kennedy walked back to his hotel room, where someone saw him (dry and calm) a little later, seeking a newspaper. The seat in the car was set for Kennedy, meaning that a shorter driver on a dark night would not have exercised as much control of the vehicle as he... thus being vulnerable to running off the road.
So, Olsen concludes that Kennedy was not in the car, he wasn't present to dive repeatedly into the water to try to save her, and he didn't even know about the drowning until the following morning -- thus Kennedy was actually innocent of the general accusation that he caused her death. Problem is, he was in fact guilty of something equally dark, and you'll have to read the book to see Olsen's comments about that.
The author's passion was admirable. It reminded me of Robert Graysmith's pursuit of the Zodiac killer, his personal immersion in the case. "The Bridge" is a terrific book. Find a copy and read it.

Review
Praise for Robert A. Heinlein:

''One of the grand masters of science fiction.'' --Wall Street Journal

''The most influential science fiction writer of all time!'' --Locus

About the Author
Robert Anson Heinlein was born in Missouri in 1907, and was raised there. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1929, but was forced by illness to retire from the Navy in 1934. He settled in California and over the next five years held a variety of jobs while doing post-graduate work in mathematics and physics at the University of California. In 1939 he sold his first science fiction story to Astounding magazine and soon devoted himself to the genre.

He was a four-time winner of the Hugo Award for his novels Stranger in a Strange Land (1961), Starship Troopers (1959), Double Star (1956), and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress (1966). His Future History series, incorporating both short stories and novels, was first mapped out in 1941. The series charts the social, political, and technological changes shaping human society from the present through several centuries into the future.

Robert A. Heinlein's books were among the first works of science fiction to reach bestseller status in both hardcover and paperback. he continued to work into his eighties, and his work never ceased to amaze, to entertain, and to generate controversy. By the time hed died, in 1988, it was evident that he was one of the formative talents of science fiction: a writer whose unique vision, unflagging energy, and persistence, over the course of five decades, made a great impact on the American mind.

Just One Short Story, Not a Collection
By Charles Dexter Ward
This is an excellent short novel/long short story by Robert Heinlein. It's not the hard sci-fi he usually wrote: it's more of a horror/suspense story (as you can tell by looking at the great cover of the Kindle edition). But Heinlein was a great story-teller & his short stories were always well-crafted & interesting. I don't want to give anything away so I won't say anything more about it other than that it's a very memorable little story & I can still vividly remember the first time I read it many (many!) years ago.

I do want to mention that the Kindle version consists of just this one short story. When this was published in paperback, it was accompanied by five or six other stories & it's a little disappointing that this is being published solo. Hopefully, the other stories from the original collection will appear in Kindle editions sometime in the future--I want to read them on my Kindle too! But if you're wondering if this edition contains anything other than "Hoag", it doesn't. I'm not complaining, but wanted to let potential buyers know that this was different from the paperback edition.
