About the Author
T.A. Barron is the award-winning author of fantasy novels such as The Lost Years of Merlin epic—soon to be a major motion picture. He serves on a variety of environmental and educational boards including The Nature Conservancy and The Land and Water Fund of the Rockies, and is the founder of a national award for heroic children. Following a life-changing decision to leave a successful business career to write full-time in 1990, Barron has written seventeen books, but is happiest when on the mountain trails with his wife, Currie, and their five children.

I love this entire series and applaud Mr

I love this entire series and applaud Mr. Barron for the longevity they enjoy. I heard him speak at a book signing in Denver about five years ago at the Tattered Cover Book Store. He is an eloquent speaker just like the stories he writes. One can become immersed in his world of dragons, Merlin and all the other characters who interact with them. There is especially one little fellow, whose name I cannot recall but who was so amusing and a delight to watch him interact with Merlin. There is so much I love about these stories. The characters including dragons that are beautiful and the obvious love of nature this author from Colorado holds in his heart. It is my state too and I can sense his acknowledgement of the wonders that still lay as protected treasures in the forests and mountains. It has been some time since I read these books and now I see there are many others in series' that I did not know were there to enjoy. I feel as if I want to reread his Merlin books again. That is something hard to find, that desire to remain in the world a writer creates for us.

It keeps you guessing until the end!

This is a wonderful first book to the trilogy of The Great Tree of Avalon. I have purchased the second book and can't wait to read it. I bought this book for my son because the author was at a conference I was attending and signing autographs. I thought an autographed book would be a unique gift. My son read it and loved it so I decided to read it also. I was immediately drawn into the story and could identify with the characters. I was kept guessing until the end whether Tam was the heir of Merlin or the child of the dark prophesy. Will he be able to change what is prophesied, as the Lady of the Lake told him? Will he be able to save Avalon? I can't wait to read the next book to find out what is in store for Tam.
