When the king's soldiers arrive at Hurog, Ward goes with them willingly, hoping to stave off an attack on his land and his cousin. His faithful mage, Oreg, who happens to be a dragon, follows at a distance, hoping to save Ward. To learn the power behind the mystical stone Farsonsbane, Jakoven, who has obtained it, has Ward tortured and discovers that Ward's blood activates the stone. When Ward escapes, Jakoven seeks a half-brother of Ward's to use his blood instead. I really liked both of the books in this "series"
By B. Mc
A very enjoyable fantasy novel. I really liked both of the books in this "series". Despite the books being short, there was good character development, an absorbing plot, and a well-fleshed world. The hero of the story is likeable, with some unique flavor. I've read a ton of this genre of novel, and I thought this was a unique addition that didn't stray from what I find satisfying. If you like stories of magic and heroism in a medieval style world, then I highly recommend these books.

Magic and Dragons and Ward - OH MY!
By Rebecca Fuller
I am giving this story 5 stars because of the volume of plot, twists, flutters, surprises, shocks, betrayals, and heartwarming emotion elicited from the reader.
Ward has lived as a simpleton since his father (leader of Hurog) all but beat him to death. He has learned to watch, mimic and play the role of an idiot to survive. But when his father dies he must step up and claim his land and people or it will be forfeit to his uncle. However he realizes that even though he has inherited the family ghost and his father's man-servant (with an unusual skill set), he will find it impossible to garner his people's trust as a leader without proof he can be a HERO in battle.
Leaving his life long home, riding his father's war horse (whose name had drifted from Stygian to Pansy), with his sister, his valet, the family ghost, and the head groomsman, Ward rides off to seek a battle royal.

Ward learns what true friends are. What family means. And how to become a leader when the crushing decisions must be made for the greater good of his land and people.

Kudos to Ms Briggs for again bringing a tale with so much meat that it must be savored rather than gnawed. High adventure with enough magic and mayhem to push it into the paranormal realm's face and survive standing.

Fantasy drama
By Scott Wozniak
The rich characters of the first book are back and their inner struggles and growth are the best thing about this book. The magic is great and the plot has nice twists, but neither are the point of this story. Slower in pace than the first book but no less sweet or satisfying to read.
